Vocaloid Descriptions: Kagamine Rin and Len

(Note: Again, this was hard to write, especially as there is a lot of controversy around them. If you want more intelligent opinions on the Kagamines, AngelEmfrbl's contributions to the comment section on their wiki page should suffice. I think I'll do Gumi next, as I actually like her voice.)
Note that this is their V4x boxart, not the original Act 1.

     Kagamine Rin/Len
Voice donor: Asami Shimoda, a professional Japanese actress, voiced both of them, although the pitch was almost certainly altered for Len’s samples.
     Engine: V2
Company: Made and sold by Crypton Future Media
     Release date: December 27, 2007
Updates and/or additional voicebanks: Act 2, three V2 Appends each, V4x update, V4 English
     Language: Japanese, English
Voice type: Rin has a pretty high-pitched voice, and so does Len. Len is classified as a female voice type, however.
Weaknesses: Act 1, their original voicebank, was an absolute mess. ‘Nuff said. Act 2, their “bug patch,” was not much better. Even with a V4 update they’re still not the best quality, because voice acted vocals can never achieve the full realism of the human voice.
Strengths: Rin can actually sing really good rock, but Len… I don’t really know, actually. *shrugs* He sounds nice, I guess.
Examples: Drifting Away, The Lost One’s Weeping, Tokyo Teddy Bear, Mr. Taxi, Error, Kaisei
Reception: It actually hasn’t changed since 2010. The same arguments about their relationship status, the same people either loving them and ignoring their flaws, or hating them and saying people are stupid for liking their voices at all, the same comments about how great the Kagamine ship is and how cute Len is, the same everything… Yeah, this is one of the things about the Vocaloid fandom I don’t like.
My opinion: Yes, they are low quality compared to other Vocaloids, and I don’t really like their English, but honestly? I don’t hate them (I don’t think I actually hate any Vocaloid) and I think it’s fine to like a Vocaloid despite its flaws. The only thing I don’t like about them is some of their fans.
