Vocaloid Descriptions: MIRIAM

Image
Miriam's official boxart Miriam Voice donor: Miriam Stockley, a South-African-born british singer and composer Engine: V1 Company: Made by Yamaha, sold by Zero-G Release date: July 2004 Updates and/or additional voicebanks: Nope. Her voice donor has suggested an update, along with many fans, but Zero-G said no, as they’re pretty much out of the Vocaloid game by now. Language: English Voice type: She has a soft alto voice. If I had to describe it in one word I would say it was “silver,” really nice and polished, but metallic. Weaknesses: Her biggest weakness is being on V1, obviously. Strengths: She just has a very nice, soft voice. Nothing really unusual, but still pleasant. Examples: Never Gonna Give You Up , Fly Me To the Moon , Secret Space , I Think I've Won , Snowglobe City , Here , Video Killed the Radio Star Reception: She was released after LEON and LOLA on a slightly updated version of V1, but still failed financially. Kind of. At the time th...

Vocaloid Descriptions: Ausgris

Image
(Note: It's been a while since I've done one of these, hasn't it?) Some official Ausgris art A reference Name:  Ausgris , pronounced Aw-gree, it's French. This is more of a "working title" for the project, so it may change. Voice donor: All that's been announced is that the voice donor is not a singer and sung-spoke the samples. Engine: V5? Probably? Company: Is being made by and will be sold by VocaTone Release date: IN THE FUTURE Updates and/or additional voicebanks: Nope Language: English Voice type: A low, youngish male-sounding voice with an American accent. They have a "quirky and upbeat voice, able to sing and speak at a low pitch." Weaknesses: ??? Strengths: ??? Maybe talkloids? Examples: Ausgris Beta Demo - be aware that this was released when only one pitch of recordings had been made, so that's why his low tones sound weird. Reception: Not popular yet, as they haven’t been released yet. They are used as a chara...

Vocaloid Descriptions: Kaito

Image
(Note: I almost forgot this, as there isn't really anything much I feel like I need to say.) Kaito's V3 Boxart   Kaito Voice donor: Naoto Fuuga is his name. Or rather, his pseudonym, a play on the Japanese for “tasteful sound.” No one actually knows that much about him, including his real name and birth year. Engine: V1 Company: Made by Yamaha, sold by Crypton Future Media Release date: February 2006 Updates and/or additional voicebanks: unreleased V2 appends, V3 update with three voicebanks (Straight, which has the same vocal tone as his V1, Soft, and Whisper), and a V3 English voicebank. There are hints that a V5 update is being planned. Language: Japanese, English Voice type: Light, soft male voice designed for baritone and tenor ranges, although he tends to lean more towards tenor. Weaknesses: Some people complain that his English sounds like Kermit, but although it’s a bit quirky, I just find that ...

Vocaloid Descriptions: CYBER DIVA and CYBER SONGMAN

Image
Cyber Diva's official boxart Cyber Songman's official boxart       Cyber Diva / Cyber Songman Company: Made and sold by Yamaha Weaknesses: Cyva has an unpleasant nasal tone, and both of them over-pronounce their vowels somewhat. Voice donors: Supposed to be anonymous, but the information was leaked that Cyber Diva was voiced by Jenny Shima Engine: V4 Release date: Cyva released February 2015, Cyman released October 2016 Updates and/or additional voicebanks: They got a V5 update, but they didn’t even fix any bugs in the update. Language: English Voice types: Cyman is somewhere in between a baritone and a tenor, Cyva is a soprano, both have American accents. Strengths: Both are professional-quality Vocaloids, and thus very inherently realistic. Examples: Athena , Thunderstorm , Run Away , A Sky Full of Stars , Since You Been Gone , Closer , Rinse, Repeat , Fighter , Lost In Time , Wings of Sound , She...

Image
(Sorry for the, ehm, un-announced hiatus last week. I was busy. I'll try not to disappoint you guys again. I was also working on a very big recommendation, which might be published next Saturday. I'm not sure at this point.) Avanna's official boxart Avanna Company: Made and sold by Zero-G Weaknesses: Avanna doesn’t really have a powerful voice. Voice donor: Her voice donor was supposed to be anonymous, but the information was revealed that it was Rachel D., an Irish professional singer, composer, musician, and sound designer. Engine: V3 Release date: December 2012 Updates and/or additional voicebanks: Nope Language: English, slight Irish accent Voice type: Avanna is a soft alto, clearer on her higher notes, sort of like Maika. Strengths: Sounds AWESOME ghkslfhdscjdpwqfh. In all seriousness, she has good pronunciation, aside from a few bugs, and is really easy to use. Examples: Beautiful Tim...

IA ...

Vocaloid Descriptions: Maika

Image
Maika's official boxart (that hair would be a nightmare to cosplay) Maika Voice donor: No information Engine: V3 Company: Made and sold by Voctro Labs, S.L Release date: December 2013 (download), January 2014 (retail) Updates and/or additional voicebanks: Nope Language: She has only a Spanish voicebank, but has extra phonemes to allow her to sing in other languages. Mainly Catalan, but she manages Japanese and English as well, albeit with a heavy Spanish accent. She has an alternate avatar, ONA, who represents her Catalan usage. Voice type: Alto to soprano. Her lower range is softer and her higher range is brighter. Strengths: Maika can reach very high notes without relying on falsetto. Her unique voice range allows her to fit into many different genres. Weaknesses: Some people overestimate her language capabilities, like saying she can do Italian or Portugese just as well as an Italian- or Portugese-dedicated Vocal...

Vocaloid Descriptions: Utatane Piko

Image
(Note: It seems that I'm doing all the poor un-updated V2s in a row. Hmm, I don't care. Also, if you're confused, his voice donor's stage name is Piko, and the Vocaloid's name is Utatane Piko, which means "sound of singer Piko.") Utatane Piko's official boxart- did you know that it was inspired by the design of an electric guitar? Utatane Piko Voice donor: Piko Engine: V2 Company: Made and sold by Sony. Yes, that Sony. Release date: December 2010 Updates and/or additional voicebanks: Nope. Language: Japanese Voice type: His voice donor became famous for being a Ryouseirui, a person who specializes in singing in both typically male and female ranges. Piko the Vocaloid has the same voice type. Weaknesses: Released on V2, so isn’t as realistic, he has a nasal tone in lower notes. Strengths: He is an authentic high-ranged male vocal, unlike Len, and quite good in his higher notes. ...

Vocaloid Descriptions: Fukase

Image
Fukase's offi cial boxart ( he has a skirt, a scarf, high heels, leggings, and a dress, but still looks like a boy somehow XD)       Fukase Voice donor: Satoshi Fukase Engine: V4 Company: Made and sold by Yamaha Release date: January 2016 Updates and/or additional voicebanks: Fukase comes with three voicebanks: Normal, Soft, and English. The Japanese ones, Normal and Soft, can be cross-synthesized. Language: Japanese, English Voice type: Middle-ranged, clear young male voice. Weaknesses: He has a slight Japanese accent... Strengths: ...but it’s certainly much less pronounced than some of the other Vocaloids (Rin+Len, Luka, Miku, Kaito, Meiko, Gumi). You can tell that his voice donor worked really hard on his English. I’ve also heard that he’s relatively easy to use. Examples: The Best That You Can Be , All Star (yes), Paradise , A Happy Ending That Nobody Knows , Near , Never Gonna Give You Up (no seri...

Vocaloid Descriptions: Big Al

Image
(Note: Sorry for the late release, I'm on vacation. It's worth it for Al though lol) Big Al's official boxart, illustration by Ash Big Al's Taiwan boxart Big Al's original boxart (my morality what is this Elvis monster morph thing)       Big Al Voice donor: Frank S. Engine: V2 Company: Made and sold by PowerFX Release date: December 2009 Updates and/or additional voicebanks: Nope :( Language: English Voice type: Baritone-tenor, American accent Weaknesses: V2 isn’t very inherently realistic, and it’s discontinued. V2 can’t do low notes well either, so he has some distortion in his lower range. He also croaks at the start of words. Strengths: His voice type in general is quite unique. He has the lowest recommended range of all the Vocaloids. Big Al is the clearest English V2 and can even drown out some other Vocaloids sometimes. Examples: Breaking Point , Rinse, Repeat , Viva ...
