Vocaloid Descriptions: Oliver
(Note: I'm finally starting the Vocaloid Descriptions section after procrastinating for so long. This is the standard format I have for descriptions, with a note like this at the beginning of each one. I think I'll do one description per week, with the other post being something else. I was going to do Miku first but then I decided to rebel against her fame and do Oliver first, so hah Miku, you're not always the first Vocaloid always ever! I should stop.)
Oliver
Voice donor: Anonymous 12-13 year old British choirboy (anonymous because Government says we must protect the smols)
Engine: V3
Company: Oliver was made by VocaTone and sold by PowerFX. VocaTone is the only American Vocaloid company, although in this case "company" is a loose term. They are small and not very professional. However, they did seem to do pretty well on their first Vocaloid.
Release date: December 12, 2011
Updates and/or additional voicebanks: Oliver has received no updates or additional voicebanks due to his VP’s voice changing. But, as I mentioned last post, that's fine.
Language: English-only, although when tuned right he can actually sing decent Japanese, such as in this song.
Voice type: High-ranged, soft young male vocal, has a lisp and a British accent.
Weaknesses: If not tuned properly he can sound muffled, and in general cannot sound very powerful. He has a few pronunciation issues with vowels at the ends of words.
Strengths: He is one of the only two authentic child voices in Vocaloid, so he is unique, and his design also helps him stand out as well. His strongest genre is choir singing, but he can be used for both cute and serious songs.
Examples: I Won't Let You Cry, Still Love You, eTeRNiTY, Raindrops, Still Alive
Reception: Oliver is definitely the most popular Engloid, at least in two definitions of the vague term, English only and English primary. His design and voice definitely are factors in his popularity, but he also voice acted Puppycat for the cartoon Bee and Puppycat, which also boosted his popularity as well.
My opinion: I don't like some of his representations in the fandom (cough Olikase cough), however Oliver is my most favorite Vocaloid ever. I found him pretty early in my Vocaloid obsession, and he took that place immediately. I just like his voice a lot.
