Blog Housekeeping

I won’t have a regular post this week, because I’ll be reorganizing my labels. These are the new labels. They should also give you an idea of where my blog is going in the future. Instead of worrying overmuch about what I’m writing about, I’ll just write what I want to write. -Vocaloid (for general Vocaloid stuff) -Vocaloid Descriptions (the Vocaloid Descriptions now have only that label, not Vocaloid as well) -Writing (little things I’ve written that don’t go in any other category. A previously published example would be It: An Idea I Came Up With ) -Recommendations (I already have this, I’m keeping it because I’ll be doing a lot more of these… prepare yourselves) -Meta-Post (You don’t seriously think I would delete this, right?) -Music (Already exists, it’s for a post that’s music-related but not Vocaloid-related) -Art (Replacing Dragons) -Old (For old posts that need to be revised) -Revised (For old posts that I’ve somehow gotten around to revising) -Revision (For...

Language by Porter Robinson

Give me release Let the waves of time and space surround me yeah Cause I need room to breathe Let me float back to the place you found me I’ll be okay... So state the only lyrics of the song Language by Porter Robinson. It’s the song I’ve been listening to on loop at school, whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed by school. By the amount of people, or by my math teacher who does a better job at confusing us than teaching us, or when I feel like I can't take a full breath because I walked to school just a bit too late and got there just as all the vehicles were, or when I stayed up late doing homework because I'm bad at time management, then had to wake up at the same time the next morning and am really tired, or when I didn't realize how many near-strangers would be staring at me until I get to the front of the class and I couldn't function, or when I'm just at the stub of my eraser in general for some/no reason. It’s helped many other people as well-...

I'm back!

Whew.      I have started public school. Some things are fine (my math class snark group, my spanish class, my biology class, lunch) and some things are less fine (my math teacher, the stifling amount of homework, the school bathrooms, oh my MORALITY the school bathrooms, I would rather go to a rest stop bathroom, that's how bad they are, the school water fountains, the halls, lack of sleep). I think it's good that I took that break. I have a lot more ideas for posts, and some already written. Let's do this.

School and other things

I have started the school year. I started it a week ago. I am very busy. I am struggling to manage my time. This is my first experience of public school after first a small private school and then homeschool. I am still adjusting. Loud. Much people. Rigid schedule, but still less rigid than the chairs. A stifling amount of homework. Why do people subject kids to this? Well, I suppose that "life is  pain, princess"...      I am also trying to figure out where I will take my blog. Will I try to find more topics related to Vocaloid (like that post on Cross-Synthesis that I've been silently procrastinating about for months)? Will I share more random writings like it ? Will I share more recommendations? Will I share about music things I'm doing? What kind of audience do I want to attract? Will I even continue the blog? I know I originally created it to find other Vocaloid fans, but so far I have had no success at all. I should probably give it more ti...

It: An Idea I Came Up With

One night, as I was laying in bed and attempting to sleep, one of those random thoughts came into my mind. You know, the thoughts that you have briefly, for maybe half a second, and you have no idea where they came from, and then they're gone, and you wonder whether or not you really thought that. They often have the vibe of not recognizing something you're seeing and making some sort of subconscious wild guess about what it is before your conscious mind catches up. Regardless of what exactly they are, I had one of those.      It was a mental image of a generic-looking humanoid figure, neatly wrapped in white bandages, and slightly translucent, like backlit fog. It walked silently around my mindscape. Mindscape- it sounds weird, but it's just the word I made up for the blank kind-of-a-space that you see when you're not seeing anything else in your mind... Actually, the word that best describes it is a backdrop, or maybe a screensaver, now that I think...

Vocaloid Descriptions: Kaito

Image
(Note: I almost forgot this, as there isn't really anything much I feel like I need to say.) Kaito's V3 Boxart   Kaito Voice donor: Naoto Fuuga is his name. Or rather, his pseudonym, a play on the Japanese for “tasteful sound.” No one actually knows that much about him, including his real name and birth year. Engine: V1 Company: Made by Yamaha, sold by Crypton Future Media Release date: February 2006 Updates and/or additional voicebanks: unreleased V2 appends, V3 update with three voicebanks (Straight, which has the same vocal tone as his V1, Soft, and Whisper), and a V3 English voicebank. There are hints that a V5 update is being planned. Language: Japanese, English Voice type: Light, soft male voice designed for baritone and tenor ranges, although he tends to lean more towards tenor. Weaknesses: Some people complain that his English sounds like Kermit, but although it’s a bit quirky, I just find that ...

Recommendations: Fullmetal Alchemist (Part 2)

Image
(Note: This is Part 2 of a very long post, because Blogger was being weird about it when it failed to load.)      The law of Equivalent Exchange is this: In order to obtain or create something, something of equal value must be lost or destroyed.      The type of alchemical reaction, called a transmutation, an alchemist desires is determined by what kind of transmutation circle, sometimes called an array, that they draw. I won't even try to explain that, but I found a good guide to drawing them here:       How to draw a transmutation circle      That's the magic system in a nutshell. Oh, actually, there's kind of another rule. It's not a fundamental rule like the other two, but bad things will happen if you try to do it: Do not perform any transmutation involving human souls. Why?      "Since the alchemical forces being manipulated are not human in origin, but of the world as a whole, th...

Reccomendations: Fullmetal Alchemist (Part 1)

(Note: I've been working on this intermittently for about 3 weeks now, and I think I bit off sliiiightly more than I could chew with this because I wanted to make it really really good. Now, of course, I want to do another one of these monsters, about my favorite Webtoon, because there has been some exciting news about it recently. However, I think I'm done for a while with this kind of thing- especially considering the start of school... I will do that one later, definitely.      Another thing. Blogger wouldn't let me post this whole thing at once, so I did it in 2 parts, very close together in time. If you somehow caught this exactly at 9:00 AM, then the next one will post at 9:01.)      I watch anime. Well, one anime, because I'm unsure whether the Studio Ghibli films count, and if so, how many they count for. My entire family has watched those. They are film masterpieces, and have the general vibe of classic Disney films with sl...

Vocaloid Descriptions: CYBER DIVA and CYBER SONGMAN

Image
Cyber Diva's official boxart Cyber Songman's official boxart       Cyber Diva / Cyber Songman Company: Made and sold by Yamaha Weaknesses: Cyva has an unpleasant nasal tone, and both of them over-pronounce their vowels somewhat. Voice donors: Supposed to be anonymous, but the information was leaked that Cyber Diva was voiced by Jenny Shima Engine: V4 Release date: Cyva released February 2015, Cyman released October 2016 Updates and/or additional voicebanks: They got a V5 update, but they didn’t even fix any bugs in the update. Language: English Voice types: Cyman is somewhere in between a baritone and a tenor, Cyva is a soprano, both have American accents. Strengths: Both are professional-quality Vocaloids, and thus very inherently realistic. Examples: Athena , Thunderstorm , Run Away , A Sky Full of Stars , Since You Been Gone , Closer , Rinse, Repeat , Fighter , Lost In Time , Wings of Sound , She...

How the Violin Works

Image
(Note: I wrote this in Google Drive and then copied-and-pasted it here. Apparently Blogger is jealous, because it wreaked havoc on the format and I was only able to fix most of it. Hmm.) This is not actually, as the title suggests, a post on how the violin works. That’s actually really cool, and I suggest you research it on your own if possible, but this is actually about what and what not the violin is capable of. I just didn’t feel like naming it “What can the violin do?” Hopefully this will also be at least mildly interesting to my other readers, but to be honest, the main audience of this post is the people I collaborate with. I record my violin for their melodies. Also, I didn’t mean it like this either, Floppyboi . Hmmph. The open strings of a violin are G3, D4, A4, and E5. If you bow the strings without putting any of your fingers on the strings, those are the notes the violin will emit. They are tuned to perfect fifths, as you will notice if you ...

Vocaloid Descriptions: Avanna

Image
(Sorry for the, ehm, un-announced hiatus last week. I was busy. I'll try not to disappoint you guys again. I was also working on a very big recommendation, which might be published next Saturday. I'm not sure at this point.) Avanna's official boxart Avanna Company: Made and sold by Zero-G Weaknesses: Avanna doesn’t really have a powerful voice. Voice donor: Her voice donor was supposed to be anonymous, but the information was revealed that it was Rachel D., an Irish professional singer, composer, musician, and sound designer. Engine: V3 Release date: December 2012 Updates and/or additional voicebanks: Nope Language: English, slight Irish accent Voice type: Avanna is a soft alto, clearer on her higher notes, sort of like Maika. Strengths: Sounds AWESOME ghkslfhdscjdpwqfh. In all seriousness, she has good pronunciation, aside from a few bugs, and is really easy to use. Examples: Beautiful Tim...
